In Adelanto, a low ebb for a high desert town
Alleged drowning of dozens of kittens by the animal control chief is only the latest in a litany of scandals to plague the town. Adelanto may mean "progress" in Spanish, but many say this scruffy high desert community -- founded in 1915 by the inventor of the Hotpoint Electric Iron -- is perpetually stuck in a quagmire of corruption and scandal.
